Do you ever get that feeling that you’re somehow in the way of what you say you want?
If you’re a human being, your answer is yes. If it’s no then you’ve reached enlightenment, so please shoot me an email so I can pay you lots of money to enlighten me.
What I’m talking about is self-sabotage. It’s perfectly natural to self-sabotage—we are all full of reactive patterns and beliefs that protect us, and in doing so get in the way of what we say we want.
One of the most common ways we get in our own way is through what are called limiting beliefs: beliefs we hold about ourselves, others, and the world that limit what we believe is possible.
Why is this important? I can’t put it any better than Corey did:
“Facts are largely irrelevant relative to our beliefs and perceptions. Because factually I can be very accomplished or intelligent, but if my perception is that I suck, that I’m a failure, that success is going to corrupt me, that I’m a broken person, then this perception, these beliefs that I have, these stories I’m telling myself about myself, the world around me, what I’m capable of, or what I deserve outweigh the facts presented to me.
Our perceptions, our beliefs about the world around us and ourselves far outweigh any facts in our environment that are presented to us.”
This is why limiting beliefs are so important: In limiting what we believe is possible, limiting beliefs limit what is possible.
In episode 17 of No Clear Answers, we show you how to overcome your limiting beliefs.
I won’t give away the punchline. AKA I’m feeling too lazy to distill more of the episode. If you’re interested, go check it out 😉
